Just for Today

Lord, for tomorrow and its needs,
I do not pray;
Keep me, my God, from stain of sin
Just for today.

Let me both diligently work,
and duly pray.
Let me be kind in word and deed,
Just for today.

Let me be slow to do my will,
Prompt me to obey;
Help me to sacrifice myself
Just for today.

And if today my tide of life
Should ebb away,
Give me thy Sacraments divine,
Sweet Lord, today.

So for tomorrow and its needs
I do not pray,
But keep me, guide me, love me, Lord,
Just for today.

Saint Augustine's Prayer Book

How Easy Lord

How easy for me to live with you, O Lord!
How easy for me to believe in you!
when my mind parts in bewilderment or falters,
when the most intelligent people see no further
than the days end and do not know
what must be done tomorrow,
You grant me the serene certitude
that you exist and that you will take care
that not all paths of good be closed,
Atop a ridge of earthly fame,
I look back in wonder at the path
which I alone could never have found,
a wonderous path through despair to this point
from which I, too, could transmit
to mankind a reflection of your rays.
and as much as I must reflect
You will give me.
but as much as I cannot take up
You will have already assigned to others.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

Love

John 15:12-17:  "My command is
this: Love each other as I have
loved you" (v. 12)

Thank you, Lord, for your written word
that tells of your
everlasting love for us.
Help us to communicate your love to
others.

A Cup of Water

Mark 9:33-41:  "I tell you the
truth, anyone who gives you a
cup of water in my name because
you belong to Christ will certainly
not lose his reward" (v. 41)

Grant a special blessing, Lord, on those
who give comfort to people whose lives
are measured in days and hours.

God's Temple

1 Cor. 3:16-17:  "Don't you know
that yourselves are God's temple
and that God's spirit lives in you?
If anyone destroys God's temple,
God will destroy him; for God's
temple is sacred, and you are
that temple."

It is an awesome thought, Lord that
our body is your temple. Help us to
keep it fit for your dwelling.

Hope

Prov. 15:30  "A cheerful look
brings joy to the heart, and good
news gives health to the bones."

Thank you, Lord, for the opertunity to
give good news to others. Help us to
bring hope with a cheerful countenance
when the news is less good.

The Lamb Instiute

Suzy McCall, grew up in Barnwell and Holy Apostles.  Her parents, Homer and Kathy McCall, and two of her sisters still live here.

After graduating from the College of Charleston, Suzy was the Director of Christian Education at St. Philip's until 1990, when she was sent out to the mission field in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Presently, Suzy is now founder and director of the LAMB Institute (The Latin American Missionary and Bible Institute), which trains Hondurans who are called to serve as missionaries in other parts of the world, especially to unreached groups of people. LAMB is so much more than a "school." It is a ministry that trains disciples young and old alike while at the same time shines as a very bright light in a poor barrio in Tegucigalpa. LAMB is always bustling with short-term mission teams, students' micro business activities, children's ministries, people in and out with needs, and now--lots of babies!

Suzy is also pastor and deacon in a new Episcopal mission church in a squatter settlement on the outskirts of town.

There are many ways you can help.

PRAY. Please keep Suzy, her staff, her children and the families to whom she ministers in your prayers.

Give: $55 provides care for a baby for 2 weeks. $25 provides gas for the van for one week. $108/month pays the electric bill for a month. $24/month buys asthma medication for one of the babies. $500 helps with so many needs!

Go: Suzy is always happy to have folks come to Hondrous and help!  If the Lord is calling you to serve, please contact Suzy!

And. . . there is no greater blessing for Suzy and the people there than the ministry of presence. Why don't you consider going?

Oh Gracious Lord, we give
you thanks, for Suzy and her
staff.  Please watch over the
children in their care;
surround them with your
love and protection. May they
never know hunger or dispair.
May they continue to grow in
your image, touching all those
around them with your spirit;
for the sake of Jesus Christ
our Lord, who liveth and
reigneth with thee and the Holy
Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen
