Just for Today
Lord, for tomorrow and its needs,
I do not pray;
Keep me, my God, from stain of sin
Just for today.
Let me both diligently work,
and duly pray.
Let me be kind in word and deed,
Just for today.
Let me be slow to do my will,
Prompt me to obey;
Help me to sacrifice myself
Just for today.
And if today my tide of life
Should ebb away,
Give me thy Sacraments divine,
Sweet Lord, today.
So for tomorrow and its needs
I do not pray,
But keep me, guide me, love me, Lord,
Just for today.
Saint Augustine's Prayer Book
How Easy Lord
How easy for me to live with you, O Lord!
How easy for me to believe in you!
when my mind parts in bewilderment or falters,
when the most intelligent people see no further
than the days end and do not know
what must be done tomorrow,
You grant me the serene certitude
that you exist and that you will take care
that not all paths of good be closed,
Atop a ridge of earthly fame,
I look back in wonder at the path
which I alone could never have found,
a wonderous path through despair to this point
from which I, too, could transmit
to mankind a reflection of your rays.
and as much as I must reflect
You will give me.
but as much as I cannot take up
You will have already assigned to others.

Love
John 15:12-17: "My command is
this: Love each other as I have
loved you" (v. 12)
Thank you, Lord, for your written word
that tells of your everlasting love for us.
Help us to communicate your love to
others.
A Cup of Water
Mark 9:33-41: "I tell you the
truth, anyone who gives you a
cup of water in my name because
you belong to Christ will certainly
not lose his reward" (v. 41)
Grant a special blessing, Lord, on those
who give comfort to people whose lives
are measured in days and hours.
God's Temple
1 Cor. 3:16-17: "Don't you know
that yourselves are God's temple
and that God's spirit lives in you?
If anyone destroys God's temple,
God will destroy him; for God's
temple is sacred, and you are
that temple."
It is an awesome thought, Lord that
our body is your temple. Help us to
keep it fit for your dwelling.
Hope
Prov. 15:30 "A cheerful look
brings joy to the heart, and good
news gives health to the bones."
Thank you, Lord, for the opertunity to
give good news to others. Help us to
bring hope with a cheerful countenance
when the news is less good.

God is good...All the time!
And all the time, God is Good!
These are good times at Holy Apostles! Bishop Lawrence made his first visit to Holy Apostles on Sunday evening, April 27th for Confirmation and to celebrate Holy Apostles becoming a parish.
Bishop Lawrence confirmed Marty Harvey, Betsy Harvey, Traci Pitts, Tim Hicks, Jesse Lee, Wren Sandifer Hart, and re-affirmed Sarah Noel.
It is highly unusual for a church which began in 1848 to become a parish in 2008!
It is even more remarkable when one considers that we live in an area (Barnwell, Allendale, and Bamberg Counties) which are all losing population. During the service announcements, I remembered the Rev. Hank Avent for leading the congregation in building our Parish Mission Center. That building gave the members of Holy Apostles the confidence that we could do anything with perseverance and God’s help!
I also thanked the Rev. Chuck Owens; without his guidance we would never have become a parish. We will always be indebted to Chuck and our brothers and sisters at Church of the Cross, Bluffton! It was also a blessing that so many of them came to help us celebrate.
This a great moment in our Church’s history, but what are we to do with this new responsibility? We know that the Lord has called us to help families through Holy Apostles Episcopal School. This is a challenging ministry to raise Christian young people who will be leaders in our area and the world. There may also be opportunities for Holy Apostles to “mentor” other small congregations in our region. Recently, I met with the St. Andrew’s Mission to discuss ways they can move towards parish status. Voorhees College in Denmark has just named Dr. Cleve Sellers as their new president. There may be many ways for us to work with Dr. Sellers, Voorhees and St. Phillip’s Chapel to support their ministries.
What we do know is that we are not to stand still. We are to move forward in faith seeking to be God’s witness in the world. Yes, God is good...All the time! And all the time, God is Good!
Yours in Christ,
Jerry
